“FOR THE RECORD”

Mike Spitz’s For The Record takes us on a nostalgic trip
through used record stores of Los Angeles and beyond.
Shooting on color film, Spitz accentuates the visual and
emotional experience of these musical institutions.

For The Record is his personal preservation and passionate
expression for the used record store.

ARTIST BIO
Mike Spitz grew up in Cincinnati and was a stage and film actor in Chicago and
New York where he attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He moved to LA in
2000.
In addition to photography, he wrote and directed several short films that have
appeared in many film festivals worldwide and on international television. His
current project, “Medicated for your Protection”, is a series of documentary
portraits of mentally ill individuals who live in a board & care home in San Pedro,
CA. His self-published book of the same title contains the entire set of portraits
and is available at Blurb Books. He has also self-published two other books –
“Crumbling City” with Blurb Books, and “Etranger” with Xlibris Books.
When not taking pictures, he works as a licensed clinical therapist with children
and teenagers at Harbor/UCLA Hospital. He has led photography groups for
youth, using it as a therapeutic tool for teaching positive and creative self-
expression.
He is a founding member of F9 Gallery, a photography collective in Los
Angeles. Previous exhibitions have been at F9 Gallery, Artists Haven Gallery
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in New York City,
Infusion Gallery in Los Angeles, and Groundwork Café in Hollywood. Upcoming
Exhibitions with F9 Gallery will be at the Brewery Art Walk in downtown LA in
April 2012, and at the ADC Contemporary Art Gallery at Bergamot Station in
Santa Monica, during MOPLA.
